Year

2014

Material

Alaskan timber, harvested and processed by hand at its origin and then shipped east in the form of crates

Size

Two largest crates, 24 × 24 × 72 in.; installation, 2 × 6 × 14 ft

The crates traveled by boat, planes, and trucks and inherit the marks of transit each time they are exhibited. The two largest crates, which hold the remaining 12 crates, are the maximum dimensions shippable via standard UPS. The installation of empty crates contains a separate, embedded musical work, Passage, 2014, which plays on headphones. Passage was created in collaboration with the composer Ben Wasserman (5 min 39 sec).
